History

1861, coming from Stuttgart Upper Neckar Railway (now Neckar -Alb -Bahn ) extended from Reutlingen Tübingen to Rottenburg am Neckar. The line was subsequently extended in several stages until they bumped into Immendingen at the Baden Black Forest Railway in 1870 to Lake Constance. This was in 1861 for the then about 8,000 residents of Tübingen and the total of about 30,000 inhabitants of the associated Oberamt first time, a rail link to the capital of the former Kingdom of Württemberg. In the years 1861/1862 the station building still preserved today was built by the architect Josef Schlierholz. In Tübingen, a depot was established at the same time. From 1867 to 1874, the Royal Württemberg State Railways of Tübingen built starting the Hohenzollern railway (now Zollernalb train) about Hechingen to Sigmaringen, Tubingen which became a railway junction. After the Ammertalbahn by Mr. Berg had reached Coming 1910 Tübingen on May 1, the present condition was largely achieved. 1916 was the still in use underpass to the two island platforms, the existing station building was extended to the western end of a so-called output Hall and remodeled inside, the platforms were covered. Apart from changes of use in particular of waiting rooms and storage areas for shops and restaurants, minor surgical procedures such as the removal of wickets the building structure has since been largely unchanged.

In the basement of the reception building an air -raid shelter was set up in 1937.

Current operation

Construction of the station

The Tübingen main station now has eight solid tracks, five of which are equipped with platforms: platform 1 is the main platform, two island platforms are the tracks 2/3 and 5/6. On the island platforms are beyond the stump tracks 9-12, of which only track 12 was used for passenger traffic. At the western end of the house platform can be found as a further -used railway siding track 13 In the West, the motor running and the Ammertalbahn, Zollernalb train and Upper Neckar Railway connect, to the east of the situated on the Neckar -Alb -Bahn former goods station connects, of which today only individual tracks are used as sidings.

All tracks have LCD destination displays for passenger information, in addition, a DB Service Point and a travel center exists. Visitors have two catering facilities and plenty of shopping venues. At the station there is also a station of the Federal Police and a focal point of the railway mission.

The platforms of the Tübingen main station since September 2011, accessible, appropriate development was planned as part of the station modernization program of DB Station & Service in Baden- Württemberg, which began in spring 2010. The platform of the tracks 1 and 13, and the platform of the tracks 2, 3 and 12 were each served by a lift, the platform of the tracks 5 and 6 by a ramp. However, the low height of the platforms remained unchanged, providing for a smooth entry into trains only on track 13 is possible. This platform has been raised as the only occasion of the re-commissioning of the modernized Ammertalbahn along its entire length in 1999 to a height of 55 cm. The increase in other platforms to 55 cm is still part of the station modernization program, but specific plans and schedules do not exist.

Long-distance traffic

Until the timetable change in December 2009, there were in Tübingen no scheduled long-distance transport more. Since then, a pair of trains, the IC - line is extended 32 days in remote regions via Stuttgart to Tübingen. The offer was initially for two years and should then be checked.

View

The concept of operations for the period after the commissioning of Stuttgart 21 provides, be necessary to have four trains per hour in each direction between Stuttgart and Tübingen. Two pairs of trains per hour should be guided by holding in Reutlingen, Nürtingen and at Stuttgart airport on the Small Wendlinger curve and a portion of Wendlingen -Ulm. Two hourly pairs of trains to run on Plochingen. The lines are to be attached via Stuttgart addition to Heilbronn, Mannheim, Karlsruhe and eels so that transfer- compounds are formed ..

Tilting trains can not run to Stuttgart because of the ban on diesel vehicles in the new Stuttgart main railway station in the future. Therefore, the operating concept envisages that today IRE line Aulendorf - Tübingen - Tübingen and Stuttgart ends in trains in Stuttgart there must be switched to the rapid RE trains. If the planned within the project tramtrain Neckar -Alb electrification of Zollernalb web between Tübingen and Albstadt- Ebingen at this time be done, should be transferred to the regional express trains from Tübingen to Albstadt according to the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport of the transfer point.

Bahnbetriebswerk

Located in the west of the railway station located between the routes to Horb and Sigmaringen depot is still in operation. At present ( 2013) are railcars of Class 650 at home here. 2007-2009 a new railcars hall and a new facility for the cleaning of passenger trains was built. The resulting approximately 1915 administration building and the listed water tower remain. The plan is a new 230 m long Ganzzughalle. Locomotives and wagons of DB Regio to be umbeheimatet here from Stuttgart. Whether the construction is also realized, also depends on the bid results of rail transport in Baden- Württemberg.
