Tubthumping

Tubthumping is a song by alternative rock band Chumbawamba, released on 11 August 1997. It was her most successful single and a worldwide hit. Nike offered the band at 1.5 million U.S. dollars to use the song for a commercial for the Football World Cup in 1998 what the band but refused. The song also makes sure that the album Tubthumper met with great success attended.

Music and lyrics

The album version of the song starts with a sample of a monologue by Pete Postlethwaite in the film Brassed Off - Sound and Fury. At the end of the song you can hear a sample of the Prince of Denmark 's March by Jeremiah Clarke.

The word comes from the anarchist tradition Tubthumping. Tubthumpers stood on boxes on street corners and in factories to make known radical political opinions. According to Chumbawamba is meant in the song: " scream to change the world (and then have a drink to celebrate ) ."
