Turan (mythology)

Turan ( " mistress ", " lady ", wahrsch of lydian turannu ) was among the Etruscans, a fertility and patron goddess ( goddess of the sky ) of the city of Vulci. Shown is the goddess with wings, and their attributes are the swan and the dove. In her company are external to it like Laz, who are the guardians of the graves. Her entourage includes Atunis (Adonis ).

Turan was instrumental along with the Greek goddess Aphrodite, the Osco - Umbrian Herentas, the Carthaginian Tanit and local Samnite - Campanian early cults influence on the development of the numerous, complex and syncretic cults of the Roman Venus. Often Turan was (as Aphrodite ) identified by the Romans directly with one of the many Venus deities.
