Topography

The Türlersee lying mostly in the municipality of Aeugst. The lake is approximately 1.4 kilometers long and 500 meters wide. At the southeastern shore lies a campsite and the beach Türlen. In the north, the river leaves the lake Reppisch.

Formation

A landslide on Aeugsterberg changed at the end of the last ice age about 10,000 years ago the landscape. The existing molasse Aeugsterberg sticking to this time as an island of the ice masses of Reuss and Linth glacier formed together. After the melting of the glacier, the pressure on the side of the mountain abated, and at the same time reinforced the meltwater streams erosion at the foot of the mountain. The slope lost stability, and 60 million cubic meters of rock slid into the valley and dammed the Reppisch to Türlersee on. First, the Türlersee flowed from across the ditch witch towards Reuss, later on the Reppisch in the Limmat.

Recreation and Conservation

With the way around the lake and through the surrounding woods, the lake is a popular recreation area. A beach and other beaches and walkways offering swimming. Primarily, the landscape at Türlersee is a wealth of nature and landscape protection area with natural banks, species-rich flat and slope bogs and dry meadows. As a spawning ground for frogs and toads is the lake of cantonal importance.

1944, the first regulation to protect the Türlersees was adopted, which has been adapted because of the steadily increasing influx of visitors in 1998 and 2001 ( Protection Ordinance of 17 December 2001). An intensive recreational use is for this reason only in demarcated areas possible: In the area of the camp, near the main road at the northern end of the lake and the so-called " witches ditch ."

Because of its sheltered position between Albis and Aeugsterberg the water of Türlersees is hardly circulated. Therefore, the water circulation is supported in the winter with a circulation system.

The Türlersee is easily accessible by public transport: for example, from the city of Zurich by tram 14 to Triemli and with the post bus line 235 or the S -Bahn Zurich (S9 ) until after Affoltern am Albis, bus number 223 to Hausen and bus line 235 to Türlersee. The Türlersee is located on the regional bike route 51 Säuliamt -Schwyz, Zurich and Schwyz.

Sage on the genesis

To the origin of the water climbs up a saga:

" There, where now the Türlersee spreads, a beautiful farm was in the old days with fertile fields. The owner had an only child, a graceful, dear daughter. That was like the young lord of the castle on the Schnabelburg eye, and he introduced her to passion. The honest child had persistently but all his promises back.

As the lord of the manor persuaded the father to take the girl at the midnight hour with all sorts of pretensions to the castle. He opened the gate and went inside the Reluctant. How he wanted to close the door, she realized what was going on, and joined a cry of execration against her traitorous father out. At that moment drove a flaming lightning from the sky and hit her parents' home. She saw opened a fiery chasm and the handsome and once- blessed court with all the fields disappeared inside. But in the morning was in their place a lake. "
