The turnspit Dog is now extinct because it was redundant with the advent of handy spring and electric motors as a kitchen assistant. The task of the turnspit Dog consisted of a treadmill to turn the spit roast over the fire so that the cooking material wurde cooked evenly. The dogs had to work for these both brave ( to work alongside the fire ) as well as obedient and loyal ( to the meat to feed themselves) be. Since the work was physically exhausting, several dogs were kept in a kitchen often, which were used in layers.
