TWAS

TWAS, the academy of sciences for the Developing World (until 2004 Third World Academy of Sciences ( TWAS ), the acronym ' TWAS ' has been retained ) is a non-governmental Academy of Sciences. Seat of the Academy is the International Centre for Theoretical Physics ICTP in Trieste, Italy.

The Academy was founded in 1983 by the Pakistani Nobel laureate Abdus Salam ( 1926-1996 ) founded with other scientists. The aim is to promote scientific work in developing countries and to pursue sustainable development in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Academy has over 1,000 elected members from 90 countries. In 2010 she was awarded the Antonio Feltrinelli Prize - for a ' work of high moral and humanitarian value ".
