Twin-scaling

Twin -scaling is a method used primarily in commercial nursery for the propagation of plants. It is used especially in densely built-up onions, as they occur in daffodils, snowdrops and hyacinths.

When Twin -scaling the mother bulb is divided so that two onion flakes segments are still connected by a piece of the follicles. These segments are used with fungicides after treatment in a special culture medium and further cultivated there. Narcissus need about four years to this approach as -grown onions are flowering size. From a large narcissus bulb can zoom breed in this way 25 to 35 young onions.

In Holland there are special nurseries who specialize in this proliferation of flower bulbs. Breeders of new varieties send these nurseries often onions, so as to use a large variety constituents.
