Tymovirales

The order Tymovirales is a taxon for viruses, according to the official Virus taxonomy includes the following families:

  • Family Tymoviridae
  • Family Alphaflexiviridae
  • Family Betaflexiviridae
  • Family Gammaflexiviridae

All members of this order have a single-stranded RNA genome in positive -strand orientation, which is linear and not segmented. Its representatives are predominantly plant viruses. The name for the order is in turn derived from the virus family Tymoviridae and these of its type species, Turnip yellow mosaic virus. While the virions of the representatives of Tymoviridae family consist of isometric, icosahedral capsids are found in the other three families filamentous, helical Kapsidsymmetrien. On the basis of sequence similarity and similar replication strategies, however, a common evolutionary precursor to all four families, it can be assumed therefore ICTV 2011 of the new order Tymovirales created.
