The submarine class type XVIII were two submarines with the names of U 796 and U 797, to be built by Deutsche Werke AG.

The work was started on January 4, 1943. On 14 December 1943, the two boats were moved to complete the Krupp Germania Werft, but in favor of the U- boats of similar design type XXI never completed.
