Tyrone Davis

Tyrone Davis ( born May 4, 1938 in Greenville, Mississippi; † 9 February 2005 in Hinsdale, Illinois) was an American soul singer and important representative of Chicago Soul.

Life

Tyrone Davis was born on a farm near the town of Greenville, Mississippi, and grew up in Saginaw / Illinois. In 1959 he moved to Chicago to work there as chauffeur blues musician Freddie King to work.

His first musical experience from Davis as an assistant at a few local blues and soul sizes in the Chicago clubs before he started his singing career himself. His first single Suffer he published in 1965 under the name " Tyrone the Wonder Boy". After the small record company at the Tyrone Davis was under contract, was forced to retire by the death of the owner, he went in Dakar Records, a former sub-label of Atlantic Records.

His first single there, Can I Change My Mind, originally the B-side, was his first success, reaching # 1 on the R & B charts and # 5 on the U.S. pop charts. Henceforth Davis coined the Chicago Soul with his gentle manner and orchestral. His biggest hit, Turn Back The Hands Of Time, in 1970, reached the pop charts in 3rd place

A year after Tyrone Davis reached his third hit with Turning Point, 1976, he moved to CBS. There recorded his songs in the style of the time of the coming disco boom, a higher danceability and so on modesty. Once again, Davis moved his record label in 1981, when he signed a contract with Highrise Records. His first single, Are You Serious to be his last R & B chart Top 5 hit.

In the 1990s, Tyrone Davis came with some minor Soul record deal, but was able to land no more success. He has published approximately every one to two years a plate and was a welcome guest at various Soul events on which he mainly lectured his old hits. He also was in the band ' Ocean's 7'

In October 2004, Tyrone Davis suffered a stroke, the consequences of which he died on 9 February 2005 at Hinsdale Hospital.
