Udo Samel

Udo Samel ( born June 25, 1953 in Eitelsbach, today district of Trier ) is a German actor.

Life

Before Udo Samel was accepted at the drama school in Frankfurt am Main in 1974, he studied at the Goethe University in Frankfurt for a year Slavonic Studies and Philosophy. After studying acting, he found his artistic home in 1978 at the Berlin stage. Here he worked with directors such as Peter Stein, Klaus Michael Grueber or Luc Bondy. . Ensemble member, he remained on the stage till 1992 his subsequent time as a freelance actor, he finished only in 2001, when he tied himself firmly back in a theater: He returned to Frankfurt to the spectacle of Frankfurt. Since 2004 Samel is an ensemble member of the Vienna Burgtheater, where he had been a guest before.

Udo Samel played outside his theater work in several films. His film debut was in 1978 in the film, Knife in the Head (directed by Reinhard Hauff ). In 1986, he starred in the movie with my hot tears, in which he embodied the composer Franz Schubert. For this role he received numerous awards, including the Grimme Prize. Deal of attention was Samel 2009 in the title role of King Lear at the Schauspielhaus Graz, directed by Peter Konwitschny. Konwitschny was three years later Udo Samel win for his production of Faust at the Schauspielhaus in Graz as Mephisto. The premiere took place on December 15, 2012.

The television audience knows Udo Samel by numerous guest roles in crime series ( the scene, A Case for Two ) and the role of the Jewish merchant Max Salomon in the ZDF Six divider transit - The story of a company for which he with the Bavarian Television Award and the Golden Gong has been excellent. In 2000 he played the role of Mikhail Gorbachev in the two-part docudrama Germany game.

Samel is narrator of the documentary The Goebbels Experiment.
