UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup
The UEFA CAF Meridian Cup is a football tournament which was launched by UEFA and CAF on 30 January 1997.
Format
1997 and 1999
In the first two tournaments, the best youth national teams of the two confederations played against each other. After a preliminary round played out in two groups, the tournament was continued in the semifinals in the KO system.
2001-2005
From 2001 to 2005, the youth national teams competed only against teams of different confederation. The points of the European and African teams were each added and the continent that could reach more points was considered a winner. However, the prize for the best team remained.
Since 2007
Of 2007, for the first time two selections of the best players of the two confederations against each other. As German players were doing Marko Marin (Borussia Mönchengladbach ), appointed Manuel Fischer (VfB Stuttgart) and Björn Kopplin (Bayern Munich ) in the European selection, Switzerland and Austria did not provide choice players. The most prominent participant was Bojan Krkić (FC Barcelona).
