Uganda Martyrs

As Sts. Martyrs of Uganda is worshiped a group of twenty-two martyrs in the Roman Catholic Church. These were servants of the king of Buganda, the missionaries of Cardinal Charles Lavigerie ( White Fathers ) had been converted to Catholicism and the reign of Mwanga II ( 1884-1903 ) between November 15, 1885, the January 27, 1887 due to their faith suffered martyrdom by dismemberment and burning alive. The memorial of St. Charles Lwanga and his companions is June 3.

  • St. Joseph Mkasa Balikuddembe († Nakivubo, November 15, 1885), of the tribe of Kayozi, the first victim of the persecution of Christians under Mwanga II, beheaded at the age of 25 years;

  • St. Dionigi Ssebuggwawo († Munyonyo 26 May 1886), of the tribe of Musu
  • St. Atanasio Bazzekuketta († Nakivubo, May 27, 1886), of the tribe of Nkima
  • St. Gonzaga Gonza († Lubowa, May 27, 1886), of the tribe of Mpologoma
  • Mattia St. Mulumba († Kampala, May 27, 1886), of the tribe of Lugave
  • St. Noè Mawaggali († Mityana 31 May, 1886), of the tribe of Ngabi
  • St. Charles Lwanga († Namugongo, June 3, 1886), of the tribe of Ngabi
  • St. Achilleo Kiwanuka († June 3, 1886 ), of the tribe of Lugave
  • St. Adolf Mukasa Ludigo († June 3, 1886 ), of the tribe of Batoro
  • St. Ambrose Kibuuka († June 3, 1886 ), of the tribe of Lugave
  • St. Kizito († June 3, 1886 ), born in 1872, of the tribe of Mmamba
  • St. Luke Baanabakintu, of the tribe of Mmamba
  • St. Giacomo Buuzabalyawo, of the tribe of Ngeye
  • St. Gyaviira, of the tribe Mmamba
  • St. Anatolio Kiriggwajjo, born in Bunyoro
  • St. Mukasa Kiriwawanvu, of the tribe of Ndiga
  • St. Mugagga, of the tribe of Ngo
  • St. Bruno Sserunkuuma, of the tribe of Ndiga
  • St. Mbaga Tuzinde, of the tribe of Mmamba
  • Called St. John Mary Muzei the old man († Mengo 27 January 1887)

Pope Benedict XV. said the martyrs of Uganda on June 6, 1920 blessed. On October 8, 1964, she was in Rome by Pope Paul VI. canonized.
