Ukrainian Spotted Steppe

The Ukrainian steppe colorful pig (Russian Украинская степная рябая, Ukrainskaja step well rjabaja ) is a fat pig breed from Ukraine.

Breeding history

Under the leadership of LK Greben selected sows of the breed were crossed Ukrainian steppe white pig with boars of the breeds Berkshire pig and mangalica pig in Askania -Nova in Kherson Oblast. In 1961 the breed was officially recognized.

Characteristics

  • Color black tabby (colored), black-red tabby or rarely black
  • In type similar to the Ukrainian steppe white pig
  • Weight sows 238 kg, 322 kg boar
  • Time to 100 kg: 186 days
  • Hardness and adequacy to the hot continental climate of the southern Ukraine (better than the Ukrainian steppe white pig)

There are 9 sire lines and 18 sows families.

Occurrence

Main breeding center is Askania -Nova. In addition, the race is still held in the Kherson Oblast and the Mykolaiv Oblast. In 1980, 5,800 purebred animals the total number.
