Ukrainian White Steppe

The Ukrainian steppe white pig (Russian Украинская степная белая, Ukrainskaja step well belaja ) is a multi-purpose breed of pig from Ukraine.

Breeding history

Under the direction of MF Ivanov local südukrainische sows were crossed with boars of Large White breed in Askania -Nova. For the first time in the Soviet Union, a regional Landrace crossed with a performance race - a principle which should still prevail worldwide,. 1932, the breed was officially recognized.

There are 15 sire lines and 55 sows families.

Occurrence

The main breeding centers are Askania -Nova and Sywasch in the Kherson Oblast and Sarja in the Zaporizhia Oblast. Is held the race also in the Kherson Oblast, Zaporizhia Oblast, Odessa and Mykolaiv Oblast in Ukraine, but also in areas in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkmenistan and Moldova. The total number was 1980 524.200 purebred animals.
