Ukrayinska Pravda

Ukrajinska Pravda ( Ukrainian Українська правда, Russian Украинская правда literally Ukrainian Truth ) is a popular Ukrainian online newspaper founded by Heorhiy Gongadze in April 2000.

The newspaper was established in response to the increasingly difficult situation for Ukrainian journalists to work independently under the government of Leonid Kuchma. To escape censorship, they therefore avoided on the Internet. Ukrajinska Pravda was characterized mainly by a critical report on the high level of corruption among senior politicians and quickly withdrew enemies from the economic and political elite of the country.

The founder of the project and Mitwirker Heorhiy Gongadze disappeared in September of 2000, after he had previously turned to the Ministry of the Interior, to report that he was monitored and tracked. His body was found two months later beheaded, which resulted in great turmoil in the Ukrainian population and eventually led to President Leonid Kuchma in the cassette scandal.

Ukrajinska Pravda played a major role in the preparation and implementation of the Orange Revolution, during the presidential elections in 2004. Was one of the last remaining independent rapporteur and published by derogation from the state television stations, the results of the parallel counting of the votes of the opposition and foreign observers.

After the events of the Orange Revolution, the online newspaper understands to this day as an advocate of the "Orange " ideas and also followed during the presidency of Viktor Yushchenko's government a critical stance.
