Uley Long Barrow

Uley Long Barrow, also known locally as " Hetty Pegler 's Tump ", is a Neolithic megalithic site of Cotswold -Severn type. It is located in the English county of Gloucestershire, 1.6 km north of Uley. The alternate name comes from Hester Pegler, a land owner in the 17th century.

The west- east oriented mound is 37 m long, 26 m wide and 3 m high. The actual system was built from stone slabs and dry masonry. A 6.6 m long and 1.5 m high passage led to five once, about maple leaf-shaped chambers arranged, containing the exkarnierten bones of about 20 people. The discovery of simultaneous complete skeletons in other grave mounds suggests that a Dekarnation before landfilling was not common practice. In the studies ( in 1821 and 1854 ), the two were located north of the Ganges chambers destroyed and the antechamber located in the east reconstructed incorrectly. In the now only three feet high, of a huge portal stone -roofed antechamber two human skeletons were found that had been buried with the tusks of boars. Whether these victims were, or when the system went out of use, is unclear.
