Ulmus × hollandica 'Wredei'

The Goldulme (Ulmus × hollandica ' Wredei ', also ' dampieri Aurea' ) is a species of the genus elm (Ulmus ) with bright golden yellow, curly leaves. This variety originated from a cross of mountain elm Ulmus glabra with the field elm Ulmus minor. The variety ' Wredei ' has emerged in the Arboretum of Old Geltow to 1875. Gold elms have an upright growth habit and form a columnar - to funnel-shaped crown. They are up to 10 m high and up to 5 m wide. The budding of the leaves is bright yellow and changes to yellow to yellow-green leaf color later. Often you can find branches that carry normal green colored leaves.

The Goldulme prefers a deep, nutrient- rich, calcareous and moist soil. It shows a high tolerance to the Dutch elm disease, a plant disease caused by fungi of the genus Ophiostoma hose.
