Ulrichshorn

Ulrichshorn from the southwest at sunrise, from the northeast ridge of Nadelhorn

The Ulrichshorn ( 3'925 m above sea level. M. ) is a peak in the Mischabelgruppe the Valais Alps west of the Saas Valley. The mountain is a little southwest of the Windjochs, by the Windjoch ( 3,850 m above sea level. M. ) looming southwest ridge forms the continuation of the Nordostgrats Nadelhorn ( 4'327 m above sea level. M. ). The summit is known for its views, particularly noteworthy is the view of the northeast wall of the Lenzspitze ( 4'294 m above sea level. M. ) and the Nadelgrat.

Was named the mountain after Melchior Ulrich, a Swiss mountaineer and theologians from Zurich, under whose leadership in 1848 succeeded in the first ascent.

Routes

The easiest ascent leads from the Mischabelhütte ( 3'335 m above sea level. M. ), first west on debasing of the Lenzspitze ridge, until you enter the Hohbalmgletscher to almost 3,600 meters. About this the Windjoch is achieved in a northwesterly direction. In the last steep climb to the Windjoch firstly stops right at Ulrichshorn and bends only last in a westerly direction to the yoke, to circumvent the columns zone. The short, rather narrow southwest ridge of high wind on the summit is rare verwechtet, but occasionally freezes. From the Mischabelhütte two hours rise time are to be estimated. Until Windjoch this increase corresponds to the normal route on the Nadelhorn so that the Ulrichshorn is often taken at an ascent of Nadelhorn.

Another possibility is rising over the north ridge from the Ried Pass ( 3'561 m above sea level. M. ). The ridge is at the bottom of a broad Firnrücken, which has some columns. Only the top of the ridge is narrow. From the Bordierhütte ( 2,886 m above sea level. M. ) requires this increase Variant 3 ½ hours.
