Ulrik Wilbek

Ulrik Wilbek ( born April 13, 1958 in Tunis ) is a handball coach from Denmark. Since 2005, he coached the Danish men's national handball team.

From 1985 to 1988 he coached the men of Virum Sorgenfri HK, then the women of Viborg HK, with whom he Danish runners-up in 1991.

The first successes as national coach had Wilbek with the Danish junior womens team in the 1980s. From the year 1991, he also coached the Danish women 's handball national team, which he led to the finals of the World Cup 1993. Under his leadership, the national team of women became European Champion in 1994 and third in the World Cup 1995. The team won the 1996 European Championships, Olympics 1996 and the World Cup 1997. Subsequently, he completed his engagement as coach of the national women's team. Wilbek there in 2014 from the coach of the Danish selection.

Wilbek again took over the training of the women's team Viborg HK and won with this for four consecutive years, the Danish Championship; In 2001, he led the team to the finals of the EHF Champions League. Subsequently, he was coach of the men of Viborg HK.

Since 2005, he coached the Danish men's national handball team. His achievements include winning the 2008 European Championship and 2012 European Championship, and each third place at the 2006 European Championship and the World Cup 2007. During the 2009 World Cup, the team and fourth in the 2010 European Championships was fifth.

From 1997 to 2005 he was a member of the Venstre party in the city parliament of Viborg; candidacy for mayor Viborg he withdrew in favor of his work as a trainer.

Ulrik Wilbek is married to the former handball player Susanne Munk Wilbek.
