Ulrike Bruns

Ulrike Bruns ( born November 17, 1953 in Cottbus ) is a former German track and field athlete. She won under her maiden name Klapezynski at the Summer Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976 for East Germany the bronze medal in the 1500 meter race.

Career

Ulrike Bruns international breakthrough in 1974 at the European Championships in Rome, when she won the 6th place with 4:10,54 in the 1500 meter race. It was several times GDR champion in all distances 800-10000 m on the track, in the hall and in the cross-country running. After numerous national and international successes, she had to quit her career because of a Knorpelabsplitterung in the knee. She started for the SC Cottbus ( Coach: Jürgen Bruns ) and later for the forward ASK Potsdam ( Coach: Bernd Dießner ). She had a competition weight of 58 kg at a height of 1.70 m.

1984 and 1986 she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.

On the eternal German leaderboard Ulrike Bruns is still the third places over 3000 m and 10 000 m. Your best time in Zurich in 1985 spilled over the mile has so far been offered by any Germans.

In 1979 she married her coach Jürgen Bruns and was the mother of a daughter ( Catherine ) and a son ( Dominik ). After their active sports career in 1988 she was a medical technician and then was a lieutenant of the NVA. After the end of the GDR, she opened with her husband in 1990 a shop in Potsdam.

In 1991, Brunswick woman running group in Potsdam, part of the Potsdamer running club since 1997.
