History

Mark Millar

Beginning of the 21st century, Marvel Comics movies like X -Men and Spider-Man (both 2000) huge success and attracted many new fans. Marvel Comics CEO Joe Quesada decided that, in addition to the existing Marvel Universe since 1961 ( "Earth- 616 " called ) to create a new universe. In this " Ultimate Marvel " mentioned continuity all the figures have been re- interpreted and its history partly adapted to the 21st century, so that new readers could jump right in without any previous knowledge.

For the " Ultimate X -Men " Quesada undertook the Scottish writer Mark Millar, who had become acquainted with independent works such as The Authority and the 2008 filmed Wanted. Millar invented the X -Men team again, and led as founding members paraplegic Professor X as head of the X -Men team led by Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Wolverine, Beast, Iceman and Colossus. Later, Nightcrawler and Shadowcat were added. Arch-enemy of the X -Men was the "brotherhood" mutant terrorist cell to the supervillain Magneto like in the movie X -Men.

Millar placed great emphasis on action- stressed controversial storylines in which the X -Men often inside fell into moral gray areas and strongly deviated from the mainstream version. He took the opportunity to the figures z.T. strongly to overtake. In his reinterpretation of Wolverine is a ruthless killer, the late hero is Storm a hard rocker chick from Harlem instead of a weather goddess, Jean Grey much more confident, and Colossus finally homosexual. Magneto and his Brotherhood contain many allusions to current terrorist groups like the IRA ( Miller is British ) as well as Al- Qaeda.

Bendis and Vaughan

After Millar got out in issue 40, he was first followed by Brian Michael Bendis 's brother titled " Ultimate Spider- Man." Bendis, whose stories are much more psychological than that of the action-heavy and cynical Millar, brought calmer actions in which the characters have been deepened. In his time drop the introductions of characters like Rogue, Angel, and Dazzler. But Bendis also invented several things new, so Dazzler a Riot Grrrl punk singer instead of a 1970s disco singer.

After Bendis ceded in issue 45, he was by Brian K. Vaughan ( Y: The Last Man ) succeeded. The well-known for its pop culture -heavy plots Vaughan introduced many new characters like Gambit, Apocalypse, Northstar, Mr. Sinister, spiral, arcade or a Mojo, their sometimes very little contemporary origin stories ( eg Gambit in Earth -616, a robber prince, in Ultimate Marvel just a loafer; Mojo was of an alien to a businessman; Arcade of a mad scientist to a mercenary ) were modernized. For his many creative reinterpretations Vaughan received high critical acclaim.

Robert Kirkman

Current author Robert Kirkman. Beneath him a marked reversal took place: the stories were previously free of aliens, time travel, dimensional portals and similar elements of "high science fiction ", so these items have been imported in all him. The criticism is currently divided.
