Umberto Brunelleschi

Umberto Brunelleschi ( born June 21, 1879 in Montemurlo, † February 16, 1949 in Paris ) was an Italian artist, graphic designer, costume designer and illustrator.

Life

Umberto Brunelleschi studied at the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence and in 1900 he moved to Paris where he worked as a cartoonist and illustrator. He used the pen name Harun there partially -al- Rashid because he liked painted oriental style. From about 1912 he illustrated books designed posters, worked for fashion magazines, was books illustrator and costume designer. During the First World War he was a soldier in Italy and stayed then Paris again. From 1920 Bühnenkostume designed among others for the Scala in Milan, the Folies Bergère, for Josephine Baker as well as Germany and the United States.
