Ungava Bay ( Baie d' Ungava French, Inuktitut: Ungava kangiqluk ) is a bay in the north of Canada's Labrador Peninsula.

The bay and all its islands belong administratively to the region Qikiqtaaluk of the territory of Nunavut, while their mainland coast to the region of Nunavik ( Administrative Region of North -du- Québec) belongs to the province of Quebec.

Geography

The 33,000 km ² large bay on the west by the Ungava Peninsula, in the north it opens into the Hudson Strait where it reaches a width of about 265 km. The Ungava Bay is a relatively shallow waters, the greatest depth is achieved with some 300 m to the northeast. The bay is located in the sphere of influence of the cold Labrador current, so that shaped the landscape around the bay of tundra and the bay in winter and spring is covered by pack ice.

Important tributaries in the Ungava Bay are Rivière Arnaud Rivière aux Feuilles, Rivière Koksoak, Rivière à la Baleine and Rivière George.

In the southwest of Ungava Bay is - in addition to the Bay of Fundy - the highest tides possibly worldwide registered.

Many Inuit settlements on the coast of Ungava Bay, of which Kuujjuaq is the most important at the mouth of Rivière Koksoak. Largest island in the bay is Akpatok Iceland in the northwest.
