Unholy Grave

Unholy Grave is a Japanese grindcore band from Nagoya.

Band History

Takaho Komatsu founded Unholy Grave 1993, after he (not to be confused with feeling sick) got out with the band Nausea. The name is inspired by the song Beyond the Unholy Grave of Death. After two demos, the group played in changing line- a more than 70 recordings, including several split albums and EPs. They also participated in several compilations. Unholy Grave toured in various European countries, the USA, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Takaho also runs a record store and a private label.

Music style and ideology

Unholy Graves music style has changed very little during the entire existence. The music is attributable to the grindcore. The effects are particularly at early grindcore bands, as well as Japanese and English hardcore punk. But the early death and thrash metal is referred to as an influence. Particular influences came from bands like Napalm Death, Repulsion, Discharge and Massacre. The band was particularly strongly attracted at the beginning of the do -it-yourself attitude of the punk scene.

The music is played very fast. The singing of Takaho Komatsu alternates between a high screeching vocals and a chant, reminiscent of a megaphone. The individual songs are rarely longer than two minutes and be in the midtempo to high-speed range. Production and songwriting are deliberately crude, game errors are tolerated on most albums. The lyrics are mostly written in simple, often grammatically incorrect English and deal with most critical social issues. The band is aligned strictly antifascist and this contributes by appropriate symbolism, as well as lyrics to the outside.
