Uniflow steam engine

The uniflow steam engine is a special design of a steam engine. It is characterized in that the fresh steam is introduced separately from the exhaust steam. It is advantageous that does not cool areas of the steam cylinder, where the steam is admitted through the exhaust. This prevents early partial condensation of the live steam.

Widespread found the DC traction engine steam engine, ie mobile combinations of steam boilers and steam engines mounted on top. These were mainly used in agriculture east of the Elbe.

In shipbuilding, these steam engines were (especially in Germany, the type stump ) performed well. Experiments with locomotives, such as the Prussian S 10, but showed no clear advantages. The spread of the use of the hot steam resulted from direct current cylinder no more benefits.
