UNIMA

The UNIMA (short for: Union Internationale de la Marionette ) is the international association of puppeteers and puppet theater - interested, founded in 1929 in Prague.

Tasks and objectives

The UNIMA is the world's oldest and most widely used Theatervereinung. Currently (as of December 2006), it has 63 national centers.

Connected to the UNESCO pursues the UNIMA the goal of puppetry and puppet theater art in the sense of human rights such as peace, freedom and mutual understanding - use - both purely interpersonal and larger coexistence of peoples.

In this sense, the UNIMA combines all conceivable forms of puppet theater under one roof, such as the object theater, the play of shadows and of course the traditional puppetry in all its presentation and manifestations.

On their councils meeting in June 2002 in Atlanta, the UNIMA declared 21 March as the International Day of puppetry.

Among the most famous UNIMA - President was Max Jacob; he was - as a German! - The first President of UNIMA after the Second World War, which is in terms of international understanding goals of the association of particular significance.

UNIMA Germany

UNIMA Germany was founded in 1972 and in 2010 about 450 members. In Germany, the UNIMA publishes the magazine DAT - the other theater, mainly with the newer and less concerned with the traditional forms of puppet theater.

UNIMA Switzerland

The UNIMA Suisse was founded in 1959 and has 186 professional, secondary professional and therapeutic puppet theaters as a member. Twice the magazine figura appears in the year in Switzerland. There is an overview of the work of the Swiss puppeteer scene.

UNIMA Congress

In the rhythm of four years, the international UNIMA conventions are held, usually associated with a festival.
