Union for International Cancer Control

Union International contre le cancer (UICC ) (German International Union Against Cancer ) is the name of an international organization with headquarters in Geneva, the research, prevention and treatment of cancers is dedicated to. The UICC was founded in 1933.

The UICC unites 276 member organizations in 86 countries in the fight against cancer, including the German Cancer Society, the German Cancer Aid and the German Cancer Research Center.

Staging according to UICC

According to guidelines of the UICC to stages of cancer after the TNM classification can be summarized into five stages groupings. Thus, all of the crucial features of the tumor classification can be considered and given a weighting. For example, all cases in which distant metastases were diagnosed (M1 ), assigned regardless of the stage of the primary tumor and the lymph node involvement the UICC stage IV.

The UICC classification is different for the individual tumors. For colorectal cancer, there are, for example, still IIc, IIIa - IIIc, IVa and IVb.
