Union of Independent Nigeriens

The National Union of Independents (French: National Union of Independents, Symbol: UNI) is a political party in Niger.

History

The National Union of Independents was founded by Amadou Ali Djibo in August 1999 in preparation for the forthcoming 1999 presidential elections. Djibo was originally a party member of the National Movement of the Development Society ( MNSD - Nassara ) was, from which he had emerged in the early 1990s. He had since been involved in the creation of several smaller parties. In the presidential elections of 1999 Djibo was then last of seven candidates. He received 1.73 % of votes. In the runoff Mahamadou Issoufou UNI supported by the Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism ( PNDS - Tarayya ), however the MNSD - Nassara Mamadou Tandja was defeated candidates. In an election alliance with the PNDS - Tarayya succeeded UNI in the parliamentary elections of 2004 to gain a mandate for the first time and collect in the National Assembly. In the parliamentary elections of 2009, which were boycotted by the major opposition parties after the authoritarian change of course by President Mamadou Tandja, like the free elections of 2011, the National Union of Independents each defended her seat in the National Assembly. The party supported in the presidential elections of 2011 the MNSD - Nassara candidates Seini Oumarou, Mahamadou Issoufou of but was defeated by the PNDS - Tarayya itself.
