Union of Right Forces

The Union of Right Forces (Russian Союз Правых Сил ( СПС ) / Soyuz Prawych Sil, PLC for short ) was a Liberal Party in Russia. It consisted of 1999 to October 2008.

Substantive Profile

The PLC was in his own words for liberal principles in politics and business.

It held liberal positions (privatization, reduction of bureaucracy ), campaigned for greater political freedoms and called for the creation of a professional army. Their relationship to the created under Vladimir Putin power elite was mixed. Internal structure

The supreme body of the PLC was the party conference. History of the Party

The PLC was founded in 1999 as a coalition of various organizations which include the party " Democratic Choice of Russia " belonged. In the elections to the State Duma in 1999, the Alliance received 8.3 % of votes. 2001 united the members of the electoral alliance to a party. In the elections in 2003, however, the Union of Right Forces was only 3.9% and was represented in the following legislative session, only three directly elected deputies in the Duma. The party was, until his arrest, Khodorkovsky funded. In May 2005, Nikita Belykh was elected chairman of the Federal Political Council.
