Unite (English coin)

The Unite is an English gold coin worth 20 shillings = 1 pound.

It was minted or struck under the reign of King James I 1604-1619 in the Tower of London. The weight is approximately 9 grams and it has a purity of 916.6 / 1000 (22 carats).

Since James I was King of Scotland, where the Unite was also marked. The lettering FACIAM EOS IN GENTEM UNAM ( I will make a nation ) indicates the desired union of the two kingdoms, but which was only completed under Queen Anne in 1707. The obverse of the coin features a four -part coat of arms, on the back is the bust of King James to see who holds the orb and a scepter in his hands.

1619 Unite for a short time was replaced by Laurel until it was minted from 1625 to 1662 under the kings Charles I and Charles II again. 1663 was finally released from the guinea.
