United Nations Good Offices Mission in Afghanistan and Pakistan

The mission of good offices of the United Nations in Afghanistan and Pakistan (English United Nations Good Offices Mission in Afghanistan and Pakistan, UNGOMAP ), a UN peacekeeping mission, based on UN Resolution 622 of 31 October 1988 and took place from May 1988 to March 1990 instead.

Due to the military intervention by the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, there were long debates in the Security Council, but all were unsuccessful. Through a personal intervention of Secretary-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar and his personal representative, it came in 1988 finally to Geneva Afghanistan agreement, were bound by the Afghanistan and Pakistan to mutual non-interference and voluntary repatriation of refugees and the Soviet Union was asked to withdraw its troops. After signing the contracts, the Security Council authorized the UNGOMAP to monitor the implementation of the Agreement.
