United Nations Office at Nairobi

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (English United Nations Office at Nairobi, UNON ) refers to the branch of the United Nations in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. The office complex is located in the district of Gigiri and includes the offices of 24 organizations and programs of the United Nations.

The office is not a regular venue for the principal organs of the United Nations. In November 2004, however, a meeting held in Nairobi, the United Nations Security Council at the insistence of the then U.S. Ambassador John Danforth on the situation in Sudan.

From 6 to 17 November 2006, the UN Climate Change Conference was held in UNON. It was at the same time

  • The twelfth Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (United Nations COP12 ) and
  • The second Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol ( CMP 2 ).
