United Nations Security Council Resolution 14

Resolution 14 of the UN Security Council is a resolution that was decided by the United Nations Security Council in the 84th meeting held on December 16, 1946, by nine votes. The United States and the Soviet Union abstained. The resolution dealt with procedural matters. The Presidency of the Security Council has been adapted to a decision of the General Assembly, after the start period for the membership of non- permanent members in the Security Council on January 1 and was to end on December 31.

Background

The term of office of a President of the Security Council was previously 17 a month to the 16th of the month follow-up. The representative of the United States, Herschel V. Johnson, had since 17 November at the post and should have represented him accordingly.

Content

The Security Council noted that the General Assembly had decided to start the rotation of the elected members of the Security Council on January 1 and leave on 31 December. Moreover, it was desirable that the rotation of the presidency of the Security Council begins and ends on the same days.

It was therefore decided that Rule 18 of the rules of procedure to suspend temporarily to allow the representatives of the United States to occupy the post of Security Council President on 17 December to 31 December 1946.
