United States midterm election

As mid-term elections (English: Midterm elections ) those options are referred to in the United States, which take place in the middle of the four-year presidential term. As with the presidential election, they always find place on Tuesday after the first Monday in November. After the election laws of the United States every two years a third of the senators and the entire House of Representatives are elected. In addition, part of Governors is elected. The parliaments of most states are chosen.

This mid-term elections are often considered the mood of the President's policies. For example, had the Republicans in the House and the Democrats in the Senate after the elections in 2000, a slim majority in each case. Republican George W. Bush was elected to the office of President. In the subsequent mid-term elections in 2002 the government's policy was confirmed: The Republicans in both chambers could make significant electoral gains and regain control of the Senate.

Frequently seen that, wrong two years after a presidential election a majority of the party that places the president in the opposite. For example, the Republican Party had won with the election of George W. Bush in November 2004, a majority in both houses of Congress. In the midterm elections of 2006, however, the Democrats were able to take over the majority of Republicans in both chambers.
