United States presidential election, 1908

The presidential election in the United States from 1908 was held on 3 November 1908. The popular incumbent President Theodore Roosevelt kept his promise and decided not to run for a third term, persuaded the Republican William Howard Taft to nominate, who was a close friend of his. After the Democrats had suffered in the election of 1904 with a conservative candidate with a great slaughter they nominated William Jennings Bryan, who had already competed in the elections of 1896 and 1900 against Republican William McKinley, however, had lost both elections. Despite all Bryan could not prevail against Taft and suffered an even worse defeat than in his two previous nominations.
