United World College Maastricht

The United World College Maastricht was opened in September 2009 as the 13th United World College. Came out the UWC Maastricht from a merger of International School Maastricht and the International Primary School Joppenhof.

Importance

UWC Maastricht currently has 525 students. By 2015 it will be 950 at the age of 2 to 18 years. The vast majority are Dutch and especially international day students from the region. In the last two school years, they are extended by 200 international boarder. These are selected by a global system of approximately 180 national committees. Candidates will be exclusively on the basis of their personal aptitude and motivation, regardless of their financial background selected. The last two years to be completed with the internationally recognized International Baccalaureate degree.

UWC Maastricht is the first United World College, which will be established as part of a national education system. For example, all students are partly funded by the Dutch Government, by all students get the same financial support as other students in the Netherlands. Building on the experience of the United World Colleges and the International School Maastricht is the UWC Maastricht as a center for social activities ( Expertise Centrum voor Maatschappelijke Stages - Centre for Expertise for Community Services ) are used. This center will be built on the campus and be open not only for UWC students but also for students and teachers from other schools. The Dutch Minister of Education expects the UWC Maastricht serves as a model for other Dutch schools.

Like all United World Colleges is also subject to the UWC Maastricht the auspices of the International Board of UWCs. Current President of the international community is Queen Noor of Jordan. The Dutch King Willem- Alexander is a former UWC student and patron of the UWC organization in the Netherlands.
