Universal Flash Storage

The Universal Flash Storage ( UFS) is a proposed standard format for memory cards, which is currently being developed, according to the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association and companies involved and be released in 2010. The objective of the parties is a faster data access and an end of the format war among the memory card manufacturers. Means uniform standards to the need for adapters lowered and compatibility be achieved under as many affected devices such as computers, digital cameras, cell phones, MP3 players and more.

The development is led by the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association, participating companies are Nokia, Micron Technology, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Spansion, STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments.

Samsung wants to bring the first version of the standard in the first half of 2011 to the market.
