The Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala ( USAC ) is the State University of Guatemala. It is the oldest and largest university in Central America. It was founded in 1676 and has its headquarters in Guatemala City.

History

Vorgründungszeit

Since the beginning of the 16th century in Guatemala offered some high schools, such as the Colegio de Santo Domingo, the Colegio de San Lucas, the Colegio Tridentino and the Colegio de San Francisco an academic lecture on nature. Creation and colonial

The University of San Carlos de Guatemala was established by decree of the Spanish king Charles II of 31 January of 1676.
