The Universidad Iberoamericana ( German: Ibero-American University ), short UIA, is a 1943 by the Jesuits under the name Centro Cultural Universitario ( CCU) established private university in Mexico and one of the elite universities in the country.

Properties

After the founding of the UIA was initially in a building on Avenida Hidalgo 120 (San Ángel settlement ) of Mexico City, which now houses the restaurant " San Angel Inn " is located. To institution includes a school of Philosophy and Humanities, which was located in the property of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ( UNAM). The teaching was recorded with seven professors and 13 students; first rector was Gabriel García Rojas. In 1952 the university its present name. Since 1974 it is independent of the UNAM.

The largest campus and headquarters are located today in Mexico City, with additional locations in Guadalajara, León, Torreón, Puebla, Tijuana and Acapulco.

For the planning of the campus Mexico City in the Campestre Churubusco settlement of the architect Augusto Álvarez García Harold was responsible. After the campus was destroyed in an earthquake in 1979, the architect J. Francisco Serrano Cacho and Rafael Mijares Alcérreca originated the present building, for which construction were responsible.

Other Facilities

The Main Library of the UIA, the " Biblioteca Francisco Xavier Clavigero ", is currently the largest private library in Latin America and holds more than 280,000 books and magazines before, and others special old mostly historical specimens, such as the collection of Porfirio Díaz.

The University operates in Mexico City a local radio station, which is under the name of Ibero 90.9 known.
