Universitario Popayán

Universitario Popayan is a 2011 established a Colombian football club based in Popayán, Cauca, which plays in the Categoría Primera B since 2011.

History

Universitario Popayan is the successor club of Centauro Villavicencio, who had great financial difficulties and whose owner wanted so make a fresh start in Popayán under a new name. In Popayán support was provided by the regional government of Cauca. The relocation took place in May 2011.

The first year in the second division of the association for legal reasons, had to play to the end, as the season had already started under the name of Centauro. Since 2012 the club play under its current name. In 2011, the club reached Torneo Finalización still under the name of Centauro the final, but lost it against Deportivo Pasto. 2012 reached Universitario twice in the group stage, but failed to qualify for the finals themselves. In the season 2013, the club, however, was again at the end of the table and was in total Table.

Stadium

Universitario Popayan completed its home games at the Estadio Ciro Lopez in Popayán. The stadium has a capacity of about 3,000 seats.
