University of Balamand

The University of Balamand (English University of Balamand, Arabic جامعة البلمند ) is a nongovernmental, denominational university in the north of Lebanon in Deir El- Balamand in the region of El - Koura on the grounds of the Monastery of Balamand (Arabic Dayr -al- Balamand, formerly Belmont ). Bearer of the University is the Greek Orthodox Church.

Since the first founding of the monastery by Cistercian in 1157 and the founding in 1603 by a Greek Orthodox religious community several times Theological Institute (1833, 1921 and 1966) were established, which were mostly closed again after a few years. The Institute recently founded the University rights were awarded in 1988. The University Hospital is St. Georges Hopital and is located in Ashrafieh (Beirut ).
