University of California, Hastings College of the Law

The University of California, Hastings College of the Law is a public law school in San Francisco.

Founded in 1878 by Judge Serranus Clinton Hastings College is the oldest law school of the West Coast of the United States, and thus also the first Law School in the composite of the University of California. As one of the few university- tailed Law Schools Hastings College does not share its campus with other degree programs. The campus consists of three blocks along McAllister Street.

As Hastings University of California donated the seed money for the Law School, he associated it with two editions: The College must remain in San Francisco near the courts, and it must not be subject to the supervision of the University of California. Thus, the Hastings College must apply its budget directly to the state of California. Eight of the nine board members appointed by the Governor of California, the ninth member must be from the family of the founder of Hastings. Current Dean Frank H. Wu.

The Hastings College offers a three-year course for Juris Doctor, as well as a one-year LL.M. degree program.

The onsite O'Brien Center for Scholarly Publications publishes nine scientific journals, including the Hastings Law Journal, founded in 1949.
