University of California, Riverside

The University of California, Riverside ( UCR or also known as UC Riverside) was founded in 1954 and belongs to the University of California (UC ), a system of public universities in the U.S. state of California. The University main campus is located in Riverside, a branch in Palm Desert. In spring 2005 16.622 students were enrolled at the university.

History

The roots of the campus date back to 1907, when the government established the Citrus Experiment Station to investigate the agricultural problems of Southern California. 1948, the founding of the College of Letters and Science was granted, which was finally opened in 1954.

The sports teams of the UC Riverside Highlanders call the. Your mascot is Scatty, a tartan - wearing bear. The University is a member of the Big West Conference.

Famous graduates

Britches

Britches was a monkey which was kept for testing purposes at UC Riverside. The monkey was separated immediately after his birth by his mother and had been sewn shut his eyelids. Activists of animal rights organization exempt Britches, removed the seams and could reintroduced the monkey later.
