The University of Dhaka ( also referred to as Dhaka University or DU; Bengali: ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, Dhaka Biśbabidyālaẏ, Dhaka Bishbabidyalay ) is a state university in Dhaka in Bangladesh. With more than 37,800 students, it is the oldest and largest public university in Bangladesh.

History

The University of Dhaka opened on July 1, 1921 with 3 faculties and 192 students. After the partition of India in 1947, the UD took over 55 affiliated colleges of the University of Calcutta, which were removed only with the establishment of the National University in 1992.
