University of Eastern Finland

The University of Eastern Finland (Finnish: Suomen yliopisto - Itä; Swedish: Östra Finlands universitet ) was founded in 2010 by a merger of the former Universities of Joensuu and Kuopio. The university includes a campus in Joensuu, Kuopio and one in a smaller campus in Savonlinna, as well as the Mekrijärvi research station in Ilomantsi.

The University of Eastern Finland is one of the largest universities in Finland. Their three locations Joensuu, Kuopio and Savonlinna get a total of 15 000 students and about 2600 employees.

With four faculties - philosophy, natural and forestry sciences, health sciences and social and commercial science - and more than 100 majors, a diverse curriculum is possible.

On the coexistence of different branches of science, special emphasis is laid. The research priorities of the University are forest and environment, health and well-being as well as new technologies and materials.

The University maintains an extensive network of international relationships and exchange programs for researchers, teachers and students. The number of bilateral cooperation agreements with foreign universities is currently around 100 Added memberships come in a variety of international networks and project communities.

Orthodox Theology

At the University of Eastern Finland, the only way to Finland to study Orthodox theology since 1988. In the vicinity of the Faculty of Theology is also the seminary of the Orthodox Church of Finland.
