The National Wassyl - Karasin University Kharkiv (Ukrainian Харківський національний університет імені В. Н. Каразіна ) in Kharkiv has about 12,000 students and about 1,300 employees, one of the major universities in Ukraine. It was founded in 1804 on the initiative of Vasily Nasarowitsch Karasin and opened in 1805. It is the second oldest university in Ukraine after the University of Lviv.
