University of Łódź

The University of Lodz ( pl.: Uniwersytet Łódzki ) is a Polish University in Łódź with about 40,000 students. The University of Łódź was on 24 May 1945 as the successor institution of mobile workers in the 1920s Łódź Scientific Institute ( 1921-1928 ), the College of Economic and Social Sciences ( 1924-1928 ) and a division of the " Free University " of Poland ( 1928 - 1939) founded.

1955, the medical subjects were spun off into the independent Medical Academy of Łódź. Today, studying at the University of over 40,000 students. The University Library houses approximately 2.8 million volumes, making it one of the largest in Poland.

The university includes student dormitories with a capacity for over 4,200 students. The dormitories are located almost exclusively near the center of the so-called " Lumumbowo " campus, named after Patrice Lumumba. Students receive a discount of the ticket price by 50 % for public transport. A monthly pass is called in Łódź Migawka.

The university has many international collaborations, including with Germany, France, Brazil, the People's Republic of China and Mexico.
