The University of Porto ( Portuguese: Universidade do Porto, Latin: Universitas Portugalensis ) short UP, is one of the largest state universities in Portugal, located in the city of Porto.
History
The University of Porto was founded in the same year as the University of Lisbon on March 22, 1911 by the merger of the Polytechnic Academy of Porto ( Academia Politécnica de Porto ) and the Surgical School of Porto ( Escola Médico- Cirúrgica de Porto ). The first faculties of the University of Porto were the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine.
