University of Silesia in Katowice

The Silesian University of Katowice (Polish: Uniwersytet Slaski w Katowicach ) was born on June 8, 1968 in Katowice by merging the local branch of the Jagiellonian University, founded in 1928 with the Pedagogical University in Katowice (Polish Wyższa SzkoĹ Pedagogiczna w Katowicach ).

In the first academic year of 1968, the Silesian University established 6,000 students in four faculties of:

  • Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
  • Jura Sciences and Administration
  • Human Sciences
  • Technology

Over the years, the University grew and developed very rapidly, so that it now consists of several branches, the four most important are located in Katowice, Sosnowiec, Chorzów and Cieszyn. The headquarters of the university administration remained in Katowice. In 2004, approximately 45,000 students were studying at the 12 faculties of the University of Silesia. Like many other Polish universities offers the Silesian University Katowice every summer at a " Summer School of Polish Language, Literature and Culture " for foreigners. All EU citizens also have the right to study in the EU country Poland. The acquired titles and qualifications are generally recognized throughout the European Union. See Erasmus ( initiative ).
